1) 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO

This exquisite beauty was sold at a private auction for a recorded price of 70 million dollars. The 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO is believed to be the most expensive classic car ever sold at an auction in 2018. And has also acquired the title of being the most expensive car on earth.

This Ferrari was built between the years 1962 and 1964 due to which there are 39 examples available. The car also made its name by being the winner of 1964 Tour de France.

It has been bought by an American businessman David Macneal who is an avid Ferrari collector.

2) 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta

The beautiful Ferrari is the second most expensive classic car ever sold at an auction at a whopping price of 48.8 million dollars in 2018. The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta was produced between the years 1962 and 1964 and as a result of which, only 36 of them were ever produced.

The vintage car remained under the ownership of an Italian businessman and a Ferrari enthusiast Fabrizio Violati who had completely restored the car. The car remained as one of his most prized possessions. Upon his death, the car was put up for sale at an auction where it was bought at the price of 38 million dollars in 2014 and was later purchased again for 48.8 million dollars.

3) 1957 Ferrari 335 S

The 1957 Ferrari 335 S was sold for a staggering price of 38.3 million dollars at an auction and thus, becoming the third most expensive classic car ever sold.

The 335 S gained fame for being in a car crash that resulted in the death of Alfonso de Portaga as well as his navigator and nine other spectators in 1957.

The vintage car was owned by collector Pierre Bardinon until his death, after which the car was put up for sale at an auction and was purchased at the aforementioned price.

4) Mercedes Benz type W 196 R Silver Arrow

The Mercedes Benz type W 196 R Silver Arrow is the fourth most expensive classic car ever sold at an auction. The car was purchased at an expensive price of 29 million dollars. It was produced for the 1954 to 1955 F1 season and won 9 races. Moreover, the Ferrari had also successfully bagged the only two championships it had entered.

The car was sold to a new owner at the Bonhams Goodwill Sale in 2013.

5) Ferrari 290 MM

This classic car was sold at a great price of 28 million dollars at the auction organised by Sotheby’s Thursday Night. It is the fifth most expensive classic car ever sold at an auction. The vehicle is one of the only four ever produced and therefore, its rarity adds to the high price tag.

The car was purchased by a new owner at the auction in 2015.
